It seems that JetComp.exe runs fine on our Windows 2000 and Windows NT
machines, but gives "Error Compacting Database" on a Windows ME
machine. Anyone have any ideas as to what is missing on the ME machine
or what files are necessary to run the JetComp utility?

Eric,
Jetcomp is self contained. There are a couple versions of it, though, and
if the version you are using does not match the version of Jet installed on
the machine with the database you want to compact it might not work. I
would start there.

Eric,
JetComp.exe makes use of the installed JETx.x library. JetComp.exe
(ver 4.0 1532) calls these dlls: vbajet32.dll, msjet40.dll and
msjter40.dll. So this might not work fully or correctly in some
circumstances.(JET 3.5 Office 97 ...) It's quite likely that you will
have to use a version JetComp.exe that is consistent with the
installed Jet library.

JET 3.5 SP3 (includes JetComp.exe 1.0)

JET 4 SP5 (includes JetComp.exe 4.0)

You're thinking just like I did. I have already tried installing the
MSJetSP5 update and there is no change. I also tried copying each of
the DLLs you mentioned (as well as a number of others that my MemProof
program said were being used by the JetComp) from my NT machine where
the JetComp works fine to the new machine, and still no luck. I also
thought that maybe it was some other MDAC component that needed to be
updated, so I downloaded the version of MDAC for ME from Microsoft's
website, but ME will not let me install it. It says that the correct
version of MDAC is already on the system or whatever. I can only find
the one version of JetComp on Microsoft's site, and that is the one I am
using.

Also, just to give even more information, my application runs fine on
the ME system, and I can do the CompactDatabase method in the
application, but I have just read so much about the advantages of
JetComp, so I wanted to include it as well.

Any other ideas? Thanks for your help.
