At work we are switching from paradox to access. Haven't figured out
yet how to import from paradox to access. Could someone point me in the right
direction. I'm desperate!
Thanks.

Of course this is for data only. You can't import forms etc.

For Access 97, run the valupak.exe (sp?) on the Office CD. That adds the
drivers for Paradox tables. You can then link to them directly and if you
prefer, import the data into an Access database.

Before you do that, check the size of your data table files. If they
are large, you may want to re-consider. Unless you use workarounds,
Access puts all the data table files for an application, including
indexes, in one disk file. For a mature application, that can
result in one huge Accesss MDB file.

Assuming all you want is the data, you can just export your Paradox table to a
comma delimited ASCII file and import it into Access. If you need the table
structure, indexes and memo files, you'll need to install the Paradox drivers
for Access. I believe they are in the Value Pack.

I think there are a number of possible solutions. After experimentation, the
one I chose was:

a) Convert my Paradox tables back to Paradox 4 format.
b) Link the Paradox 4 tables into my Access database.
c) Manually create empty tables in the Access database to accept the data.
d) Use VB and SQL to transfer the data from the linked Paradox tables to the
new Access tables (I also performed some data cleaning and
data-type-conversion at this stage).

One reason for choosing this solution was that I was using Paradox7 and
Access97. Access97 didn't seem happy with Paradox tables above version 4.
Paradox7 doesn't seem to know about Access97.

This may not be the best solution for you; it probably depends on what
versions of Paradox and Access you are using, and how large and complex your
database is.

Good luck

Why not just use Paradox 7 to save the tables in Paradox 4.5 format, then
import them into Access?

My reason for doing a link-then-transfer was that the range of field types
available in Paradox 4 is smaller than the range available in Paradox7 and
Access97. I had to do some field-type conversions and data-fudging when
going backwards from Paradox7 to Paradox4, and I wanted to reverse these
changes as the data was brought into Access97.

I'm not sure why I had to go right back to Paradox4 format to get
compatibility - it may have been due to my use of the Table Language option
in Paradox.
