Hotfix Not Fixing Problem

I've downloaded the hotfix that is discussed here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974995
in an attempt to fix the A2007 problem of combo boxes randomly going
transparent. It doesn't seem to fix the problem.

I know that there is a workaround that involves changing the alternate
back color of the form but this does not seem to be suitable if the
problem of the transparent combo boxes is an issue in a A2003 database
running under A2007. I've tried changing the alternate back colour in
A2007 (which fixes the problem) but when I go back to A2003 to create
the mde Access falls over. This is probably not surprising given that
A2003 doesn't recognise the alternate back color property.

Has anyone had success with the abovementioned hotfix actually fixing
the problem and are there any other workarounds given that the
alternate back color workaround doesn't work in the scenario that I've
described above?
