Hi,

I have the following problem trying to copy a large table into a new database.

Is there any way I can edit the flat file to see what is on row 2018298??

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks,

Anne

Hi Anne,

You can display the line using sed as follows

sed –n ‘2018298p’ ft_debit_and_credit.old

or a range either side the line using

sed –n ‘2018295,2018300p’ ft_debit_and_credit.old

Once you can see the problem then you can also use sed to edit the line. You will need to redirect the output to a new file. For example you may want to replace some part of the record with something new

sed ‘2018298s/old_string/new_string/’ ft_debit_and_credit.old > new_file

or add something to the end of the line

sed ‘2018298s/$/extra_bits/’ ft_debit_and_credit.old > new_file

Once the changes are made you can either swap the old file for the new or change the COPY statement to use the new file.

For me it almost sounds like your running out off permitted pages on your 2K-page table meaning

Create the table on more than one location/spread the table on more than one location.

Kind regards, med venlig hilsen
