hello,
For some reason, we now see a -857 error (Rowids do not exist on table)
when running a select rowid against a temp table. We are on version 11.7.FC5 on AIX 6.1
There were no config nor version changes but it worked fine on friday and then started getting the error on monday - any ideas?

thanks
tom

If you have DBSPACETEMP set to multiple temp dbspaces, either in the ONCONFIG file or overridden by the users' environment, the engine will fragment/partition temp tables across all of them and partitioned tables do not have rowids.  Is it possible that the value in DBSPACETEMP was changed?

we have had multiple items listed in DBSPACETEMP in the ONCONFIG for quite some time. It was the only thing I could think of that would have done this change.

Or maybe the DBSPACETEMP environment var for this app changed.  Otherwise, I dunno.

If you need a substitute for ROWID for temp tables, checkout the rownum() function I posted to my blog yesterday.  That should serve either while inserting the rows to the temp table or during the fetch back out.  If you need a guaranteed stable numbering, then I'd suggest using it when inserting the rows.
