this is the senario:
HPUX 11.00 Informix Version 7.31
The Database was installed under one hostname and ip. We changed the
system's hostname and ip, and are now getting this error. The database
ran fine until we changed hostname and ip. Also we have changed the
sqlhosts file to reflect the new hostname and ip. Are the licenses
tied to hostname in anyway? The real interesting part is the fact that
it also says that we are out of semaphores. That makes no sense to me
seeing how the db ran fine under it's orig. hostname and ip. I think
it is complaining about semaphores because it can't even create them.
Not that we are out.

Any Help would be appreciated greatly..This system is due to go live
4/6/02 on the network we can't get working.

Thanks,
BOB

"Its" in the possessive sense does not have an apostrophe.

Can you post your /etc/services, /etc/hosts and $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts
files? Er, I expect you can. I mean, please post them.

No.

Does your renamed host trust itself? Check your connectivity files.
Is is starting up a listener thread that you don't want or haven't configured?
Have you defined a service for TCP connections?

Check the database server name and aliases to see if they're what they
should be on the renamed box and that they match what you have in sqlhosts.

Did somebody muck with OS parms behind your back?

Check online.log and syslog. They may have some other stuff to tell you.

We had no Problem to initialize an IDS after renaming the host under UNIX.
One of our customers had a problem after making some changes of DNS configuration.
In this case I wrote the IP-address and the service-number hard into sqlhosts.
It helped.
( Thats not the final solution, but production went on )
