I am looking for one file that is supposed to be a part of I-Net 5.0,
described in documentation and release notes, but in fact, at least in
my case, was not there.

File name is FGLSQL.DLL or FGLSQLW.DLL or FGLSQLWW.DLL

FGLSQL.DLL was the file originally distributed with Informix 4GL for
Windows, as a communication DLL to I-Net 4.1 or SE PC 4.1. Size is
186KB (189,547 bytes), date: 10/10/1993 07:23. This file I have.

FGLSQLW.DLL is file in I-Net 5 for Windows distribution, but in fact
it is not a DLL file, but a simple text file with only one word in it,
an the is: "dummy". Size is 1KB (6 bytes), date: 26/09/1995 03:13.
What is supposed to be in I-Net 5 distribution, I cannot say (and
neither can my Informix support person), because in release notes is
described by name "FGLSQLWW.DLL", as "4GL version 4.1 support DLL
(dummy)", and in I-Net 5 manual by name "FGLSQL.DLL" (same as in 4.1)
as "module that allows INFORMIX-4GL for Windows Version 4.11
applications to communicate with an Informix database server located
across a network".

PLEASE, do me a big favor, and search Your disk with installed I-Net V
5.0 or higher, for any FGLSQ*.DLL, and e-mail me if You find ANYTHING
that you find, that IS NOT:

FGLSQL.DLL 189,547 bytes, date: 10/10/1993 07:23
AND
FGLSQLW.DLL 6 bytes, date: 26/09/1995 03:13

If you are using Informix 4GL for windows V4.x as well, it would be
very much appreciated I you can describe your I-Net configuration.

Remember, You can go to haven for a simple file search!

Really, I'm desperate, You can see that. I can not write as many

THANK YOU!

As I would wish.

Really? Try again.

FILE server. FILE (like "file"?) server? What does this to do with
anything?
Or you meant DATABASE after all.

>This is because I'm trying to use 4GL FOR WINDOWS & I-NET

1. try any other configuration of OS/I-Net/Informix client to verify
that you can connect trough network to OnLine after all. If this is
not working, try logging into OnLine locally, on server. If this is
not working, and you are not an Informix *and* Novell guy, call
somebody (by all means, do not try calling Informix support. Use a big
hammer first) to fix server side first.

2. try I-Net 4.1. This is working on 3.11 and 95, with TCP/IP. On 95
you will need to start remsql/setnet from autoexec/dos *before* you
start 95. With IPX/SPX, it will work on 3.x and TSR network kernel,
but if you try 95 (or DLL/VxD network kernel with 3.x),you will
probably need real mode ipx, because remsql.exe TSR will look for
network TSR, and not DLL or VxD. (You can overcome this with TCP/IP
_IF_ you use FTP software "OnNet" for winsock, which redirect TSR
calls to VxD. Maybe, you can configure Novell client (not Microsoft
IPX/SPX compatible client) to this with IPX, I did not try this..)

Now you will know that:
a- Your NetWare and OnLine is configured properly and working.

b- Your client Os, network, and I-Net 4.1, including some
Informix client is configured properly, and working.

Now, you can try installing I-Net 5.01. There is high probability that
after that you will be able to log onto OnLine with Ilogin demo. If
you set INFORMIX.INI with SETNET for windows properly. I'm not sure if
hosts/sqlhosts/services files has anything to do with IPX/SPX.

If this is done, you can start posting to C.D.I. about missing
FGLSQL.DLL/FLGSQLW.DLL/FGLSQLWW.DLL, like I did, because You will now
be able to use almost any Informix client SW for windows, except 4GL
for windows, because you will still have old FGLSQL.DLL/PEMSQL.DLL
from your 4GL 4.x install, that will keep looking for REMSQL.EXE TSR,
which is replaced with LDLLSQLW/ISQLI501/WINETMAN DLL chain. Also, you
can try reading all my posts to C.D.I. in last month.

By all means, now *do* try calling Informix support. Use a big hammer
after.

>Please send me some info to c...@codetel.net.do

.do? DOA!

BTW, what version of 4GL and FGLSQL.DLL do you have? (size, date,
time…)

Do You have any idea what is the hidden meaning behind distributing
"dummy" files?

Maybe, if PB 4 can work with I-Net 4.1, You do not have to. I-Net 4.1
(16 bit) and I-Net 5.01 or I-Connect (32 bit) can work simultaneously
on one client if You can use FTP Software OnNet for TCP/IP
connectivity (winsock.dll).

Also, the entry point of 16 bit (ESQL/C 4.1 and 5.01) client apps is
different from 32 bit (ESQL/C 7.x) into SQL communication chain is
different, so I believe it can be done without switching, _if_ you are
using native Informix access, and not ODBC.

Yes, I-Connect (I-net 7.x) is 32 bit, but I'm not sure that this is
made especially for 95. It can work on NT also, and last version of
5.x was 32 bit also, but especially made for NT.

We have been using both 32 bit and 16 bit Informix wrappers on the same
machine under NT 4.0.

Get I-NET (Version 5.01.WJ2) for 16 bit Windows, and I-Connect for NT/95.

We are using Intersolv ODBC 2.5 (2 versions required--32 bit and 16 bit)
with our
VB and MS/Access client-server apps and have gotten good performance and
fair support.

Don't bother with a 3rd-party TCP/IP stack (PCTCP). You will find that the
Microsoft built-in (and free) stack is fast and it works with both 16 and
32 bit wrappers in 95 and NT.

Hope this helps,

I have mentioned PCTCP because it will work with I-Net 4.1 and 5.0x
and up. If You remember, 4.1 was specific for FTP Software PCTCP or
Sun NFS.

Microsoft WINSOCK will not work for 4.1
