I have wondered this same question. And, although I have had some MAJOR
complaints with INFORMIX of MSDOS 4.1 (It still SUCKS!), I'm sold on their
unix stuff...

Its seems that the competetion is fierce these days regarding databases and
Informix needs to relate to the windows environment with ease. I'm hoping that
will happen in our lifetime ;-)

I *gotta* respond to this one.

There are plenty of jobs for programming in Informix - you either have to
know where to look or you have to be employed by one of the foreign job
shops! The company I'm working with (name withheld) easily employs over
100 foreign programmers who had some experience with Informix. You know,
the standard deal to cut the American programmer out of the loop because
American labor costs are sky high (which is true).

I entered the Informix software (commercial) job market (I was in the
military) in June, 1993, and was hired the same month. (Of course, I
did my homework and planned *six months* in advance, but still ...)

It will. Believe me, the CEO, the R&D people, and just about everyone
else at Informix knows this and is responding to it. Writing/rewriting
a full-fledged object-oriented programming language is not a trivial
task ... there *will* be a 4GL++, and it is on the horizon.

Don't ask me how soon. I don't work in R&D.

Bill,

For your info, you are incorrect in quoting me for the below. I did NOT
make any of the below statements. If you look closer, you'll see the
original article was written by a Theron B Kousek.

I did make a comment to Mr. Kousek's statements; but, it is not included in
the below posting you made.

Unlike Theron B. Kousek, I am NOT having problem with employment and have
too much work to do as it is. I work as a Senior Systems Analyst for a
mass transit authority and own a travel agency, EZ Travel.

I *hadda* respond to this one.
