I think it means more trouble for MySQL than anyone else.
Um - maybe a little thing called the German Government ?

In many dot-coms, speaking from experience, it's the kids running MySQL, and
they expect it to scale up, which it won't, at least for right now. Until
the Falcon engine really comes of age, and partitioning matures, MySQL is still
not going to be a threat for the next few years. Many of the bigger shops hell
bent on MySQL are using overlay products to offset the broken-ness of MySQL,
such as Continuent, and its open sores cousin Sequoia. MySQL is really over
in the camp of auto-commit databases, so it's not going to be a choice for real
enterprise databases, not for a long time. Like SQL-Server and other engines
that are basically auto-commit, you cannot control logging the way you can with
Informix, or DB2, or <gasp> Oracle. Until that kind of functionality is in
MySQL it isn't going to be a threat. MySQL has the mindshare of the kidz running
the dot-coms, but they learn after their data starts to grow that MySQL is good
for small stuff, but not for real enterprise. Maybe Sun wants to get in the game,
kinda like they tried with storage, chasing after EMC. They have a lot of cash,
so maybe they can afford to waste time with MySQL.

May be, the Volkswagen law (state law of Lower Saxony to keep influence on
Volkswagen) is a thing of the past.
To my knowledge there was no cartel "STOP" called by a german government in
the past 10 to 15 years.
Ok, it would be charming to see little Lary bitching about IBM buying SAP
(or SAP switching back to informix) and kicking Oracle out of the SAP world.
