i hate to say this but installing ids is getting worse and worse...
am trying to install 11.5 on fedore 10 64 bits and it bombs with:
The wizard cannot continue because of the following error: could not
load wizard specified in /wizard.inf (104)
GRMBLLLL there is nothing i can find about it and i probably need to
install GRMBLL
java. What happened to an easy script???
GRMBLLL again; how do you lot test this.....
Superboer.
i will end up debugging it.
I *think* it has to do with the fact that your OS has a java which is not
exactly "Java". If you install the Java from java.com it will probably work...
As a workaround you may want to temporarily remove your current "java" from
your PATH. I believe the new installer goes with a compatible java... not 100%
sure... latest installs just worked (for me) so it's been a while since I
looked at it.
Besides all this, not sure if Fedora is a supported OS. If it's not, that would
explain why it went through the tests unnoticed... Not that you're too worried
about this of course... At least I'm not when I install it in pretty old Fedora
VMs :)

My email works... but I don't check it frequently...
Fucking drives me mad. All this supposedly "idiot-proof" Java-shite-based
scripting for installs. I had a Tech Support call open for a failed install
recently: basically the answer is "Tough Shit" if for some reason the
Java-shite based install script fails - there is no workaround or
alternative.
Still, I'm sure some focus group of 10 "randomly-selected" users, all of
whom just happened to be Java programming friends of the Developers, said a
Java-based install program was perfect!

I would love to get some feedback on this... If it works I mean... I wasn't
aware of the option mentioned. My previous post was a "hack" to achieve the
same effect.
trying your hack and the one from Sundar resulted in a silent
failure.....
so i downloaded java and the install seems to work now.
Thanks for your response

was a bit to fast:
One or more prerequisite system libraries are not installed on your
computer. Install libm.so.6, libc.so.6, libncurses.so.5 and then
restart the IBM Informix installation program..
great where does the installer expect these files to be??
ls -l /lib64/libncurses.so.5 /lib64/libm.so.6 /lib64/libc.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2009-01-22 19:39 /lib64/libc.so.6 ->
libc-2.9.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2009-01-22 19:39 /lib64/libm.so.6 ->
libm-2.9.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-01-22 19:39 /lib64/libncurses.so.5 ->
libncurses.so.5.6
Superboer
ran it with -debug as in the install script
found out that the debug info was in /tmp/informix/
saw that it checked for
/usr/java/jre1.6.0_12/lib/amd64/server
created the sym links to the 'missing libs' there reran the install
which installed..
i sure would advice you to seriously look at the install stuff it is
really awful

As I wrote on 19th February:
You were installing in GUI or console mode?
Your "java" (which java) is a script or binary file?
What is the setting of the ld (/etc/ld.conf ?) of your system?

gui.

have to check i downloaded and installed java from sun did not look at
what java was...
> What is the setting of the ld (/etc/ld.conf ?) of your system?
can not access the machine, when i do i'll post.
BTW it does work now. engine is running.....

Yes... I understand it works... But it should work without so much trouble :)
It's acceptable that it may not work without the standard java (that's why it
ships with one), but after that...
Either there's something wrong with the installer, or your system has some
weird setup...
It would be nice to find out... Obviously you don't need to do it now since it
works...
no /etc/ld.conf
i do have a ld.so.conf which says:
include ld.so.conf.d/*.conf
ls /etc/ld.so.conf.d/
kernel-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64.conf

xulrunner-64.conf
------------------
/usr/lib64/xulrunner-1.9
---------------
mysql-x86_64.conf

java is a binary
old:
/usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64/bin/java
/usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64/bin/java: ELF 64-bit LSB
executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared
libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.9, stripped
'new':
file /usr/java/default/bin/java

I had the same problem when I install the 11.5 on fedore 10 32 bits.
This is how I resolve the problems:
1. Remove the whole Java package by using the Linux [Add/Remove
Software]. To remove the package you need to search the Package
collection.
2. Download the genuiue Java package from www.java.com
java version "1.6.0_12"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_12-b04)
3. Install the genuine JRE
4. Verify your JRE
# /usr/bin/java -version
5. Install IDS 11.50 by
# ./ids_install or
# ./ids_install -javahome /usr/bin
As said by Fernando, the default Java in Fedora is not exactly "Java".
Just get rid of the fake Java and install the genuine.
Regards,
Young Tan
done that and a bit more, it does work now.
thanks anyway for your comment
