I am wondering if DB2 can handle the following data integrity senarios:
Environment:
It is a client/server environment with AS400 being the server and the
clients being OS/2 based workstations. DB2 was installed on AS400 as well as
on OS/2. There are some data stored on DB2/AS400 and some on DB2/OS2. The
data are distributed and replicated(for some).
1) Replicated Data Issue:
If the DB2 data on the client side has changed, would it be automatically
updated the DB2 on AS400 as well?
e.g. Customer's account balance, think of client being a branch and the server
being the bank's central repository. If the customer withdrew $1,000, both
the client and the server database should get updated.
2) Relationship Issue:
If the DB2 data on the client side has changed, would it be automatically
updated the data relationship on the AS400's DB2?
Thanks for advance!
The DataPropagator products allow propagation of data between AS/400 and
DB2 for OS/2. The DataPropagator products are based on the concept of
asynchronous propagation (using log capture method).
Thus though you can move data between AS/400 and DB2 for OS/2 (in one direction
when using DB2/2 V1.2 and in both direction with DB2 for OS/2 Version 2.1)
there is no guarantee of successful completion.
If you are looking for synchronous update (e.g. 2-phase commit capability),
then this capability is not yet supported between DB2 for OS/2 and DB2/400.
Look for it later this year. For the record, DB2 Version 2.1 does support
2-phase commit (application driven) between DB2 for OS/2 and DB2 for AIX.
