RATIONALE: comp.sys.ibm.as400.db2
There is currently no newsgroup dedicated to discussions and
announcements relating to DB2 UDB for AS/400 - despite the fact
that DB2 UDB for AS/400 is the world's most popular multi-user
relation database. Furthermore, many AS/400 users are confused
by which DB2 UDB product or version is available on this
platform. The creation of this newgroup will make it clear that
the AS/400 DB2 implementation is unique.
The creation of this newsgroup would also allow DB2 UDB for
AS/400 related discussion to be concentrated in a single
newsgroup - rather than scattered haphazard across a couple of
news groups, mainly: comp.sys.ibm.as400.misc and
comp.databases.ibm-db2. DB2 UDB for AS/400 is discussed on
both of these newsgroups, but these newsgroups are fairly busy
(100+ messages) and address a broad range of topics. This
broadness and large number of of postings makes it hard to to
find and follow just the DB2 UDB for AS/400 related threads.

The group comp.sys.ibm.as400.db2 is for the discussion of topics
relating to the AS/400's integrated releation database,
DB2 UDB for AS/400. This includes but is not limited to:
- SQL
- performance tuning
- creation & management of queries
- database & application development
- programming interfaces: ODBC, JDBC, CLI, etc
- Backup and Recovery
- database connectivity and middleware
- tool and application software evaluation and assistance
- COMMON and other professional conferences
- DDS, as it pertains to database
- Product announcements as they relate to the IBM AS/400
system and it's integrated relational
Money-making schemes, advertising (beyond simple
product announcements), and discussion of other relational
databases, except in relation to connectivity and
interoperability, are not appropriate in this group. Posting of
job announcements or resumes is also inappropriate -- post
these to misc.job or another appropriate job-related group.
The official language of the midrange group will be English.

VOTETAKER NOTE:
The proponent sent out the email message below to solicit votes,
apparently to some internal IBM mailing list; a naive recipient
accidentally forwarded it to the voting address. Note the proponent
said to use a particular "Subject:" line, sent a CFV edited down to
just the "yes" voting instructions, and suggested that people hide
their collusion by using personal email addresses instead of their IBM
email addresses.
All votes that had the "Subject:" line the proponent said to use (in
either upper or lower case) were invalidated, as was the proponent's
