I'm doing research for a project and need technical and general information
on any database program.
I want to know how to access the database, which front-end to use, the
maximum size of the database and speed comparisons with other databases.
Please e-mail any replies cause of the size of the newsgroup.
Thank you Jaco Roesch
DB2 can have many different "Front Ends". DB2 runs on multiple platforms
and provides essentially identical results. DB2 has the experience in
database technology from IBM.
IBM has been in the database business since the early 70s. IBM defined
the standards for SQL, actually the invented the language. DB2 is as
fast as any database providing you have the horsepower to run it. DB2
has referential integrity built into it. Lately some Windows database
software has made attempts to add this feature. DB2 is inherently stable
from my experience with it. DB2 hardly ever crashes. Data recovery is
built in too. Transaction logging, long a problem with DOS and Windows
database systems is built in, making application development very
simple.
DB2 can operate on a stand alone machine or on a network.
DB2 is accessed through SQL. The SQL front end does not really make any
difference except for the "Fastness" of the language containing the SQL
statements.
