I just installed a demo of DB2 Universal Database Enterprise Edition on NT
4.0 Workstation. I am trying to connect to an MVS/ESA DB2 version 3.1
using TCP/IP.

I specified the IP address and port of the host and named the database I
want to connect to. It asks for a user and password but I'm not sure what
to type in.
I have always been able to logon directly to the mainframe computer and
access the database without having to type in a user and password.

Whenever I try to connect, the task just hangs.

Can someone help me ??

You need V5 on the host to use TCP/IP. For V3 or V4 hosts you need to
configure an SNA connection, which is not a task for the faint of heart. I
have been trying off and on to get this to work with a V3.1 system and have
not yet succeeded. There is documentation about how to do it in the DB2
Connect Quick Beginnings manual which comes on the demo CD. Good luck.

As stated, you need DB2 for OS/390 V5 on the host for native TCP/IP
connectivity
with DB2 COnnect. If you are willing to use the trial version of DB2
Connect Personal
Edtion for Win95/WinNT/Win3.1 an integrated SNA stack is provided with
ease
of configuration provided by the Client Configuration Assistant. Please
note that no other
SNA product should be installed on the machine. If there is, then you
should use the
already installed stack and not install the integrated SNA stack.
