How do I set a default value once a table is built ?

Hi all,
According to what I can see in the doco, once a table has been created, you
cannot issue an ALTER TABLE x ALTER y to set a new default value on a
column.

Why not give it a try? It would only take a minute or two, which would give
you an answer faster than waiting for a reply on the newsgroup.....
