Hi,
Our team wants to migrate from DB2 on Z/OS to DB2 for LUW. We have a Java middleware, as well as C/C++ middleware that have embedded SQL code to interact with DB2. I have following questions, whose answers are not 100% clear to me as of now, any amount of information, and knowledge would be highly helpful, and appreciated:
1. Will I require any change in the embedded SQL code in the C, and Java middlewares when the middlewares start pointing to the DB2 on LUW?
2. How difficult are the DBA tasks to firstly replicate the schema from Z/OS to LUW? As I read some documentation by IBM, they mention some differences in DDLs for the 2 variants of DB2. Will db2look utility provide a SQL for the target variant, or just extract the DDL SQL for the source variant? How difficult is movement of data once schema replication is complete? I know there are command line utilities, but would like to know from experience of some of you folks who might have already got your hands dirty. This is the first time I am handling this case, so have absolutely no idea.
3. I am totally in dark on this front as of now: What will be the changes in DBA activities, and overall Administration activities post migration to LUW?

TIA And Regards,
Manish Velankar.

1) Most likely no changes to the SQL will be required. The SQL for SELECTs, INSERTs, UPDATEs, and
DELETEs is about 99% compatibile, depending on whether there are any obscure features of SQL being
used.

2) To move the data, use DB2 Connect Product. You can use the DB2 LUW export command to
download the data from DB2 z/OS to a flat file on LUW that can be loaded into a DB2 LUW table. I
believe a free trial of DB2 Connect comes with the trial version of DB2 LUW server. It might also be
included in DB2 LUW developer edition.

Using db2look, the schema from DB2 z/OS will have the columns, indexes, etc. But it will have to be
customized for DB2 LUW tablespaces, etc.

3) DBA tasks are totally different, you will need a DBA with DB2 LUW experience if you want it done
right. If you can't hire someone with DB2 LUW experience, consider hiring a consultant for month or so
to help you out. Post your email address if you need someone.
