Try as I may I cannot get past this error when running db2start under
Linux (Redhat 6.2).

Starting DB2 Instance db2inst1...
SQL1220N The database manager shared memory set cannot be allocated.

Running on a 750Mhz K7 with 256MB of memory. DB2 UDB 6.1.0-6 -
I have tried fixpacks to bring it to 6.1.0-13 to no avail. Any ideas?

You are running out of memory. Change some of the DB/DBM cfg parameters to
accomodate within 256Mb or increase the memory on your workstation.
Hope that helps....

Thanks for the reply. I had already upgraded from 128MB to 256MB which
seemed to be an overkill. In the meantime I have upgraded to 6.1.0-13
again and now db2start works, which didn't happen with 128MB.
Thanks again - Doug Laing, Johannesburg

Have you update the instance after installing the fixpack for DB2? Run
db2iupdt InstName.
