Hello,

I am trying to create a copy of my runtime solution {FMP 5} on Windows 8. I have been able to add the extension .US8 for years on versions prior to W8. I have several custom solutions stored for my users and Windows has never complained when I tried to add the extension to a new fileset. Today however, when I click Next after specifying the extension, Windows objects that it is in use with another program and won't allow me to continue. I need to do this with a repaired file for a user so it will work with his good files. Is there a way to override this? I am logged in as an admin.

Thanks,
Bill

It doesn't really matter whether or not US8 is a "windows related
extension". In fact, that's the point: to give your files an extension
that are not used by any other Windows applications. US8 is fine.

I'm assuming the extension itself has nothing to do with your issue. My
assumption is that you could come up with ANY file extension and you
would get the same error, that the file is in use. Perhaps the files
were already open in FileMaker when you tried renaming them or
converting them into a runtime? Your FM files should be closed when
doing this.
