It doesn't really matter whether or not US8 is a "windows related
extension". In fact, that's the point: to give your files an extension
that are not used by any other Windows applications. US8 is fine.
I'm assuming the extension itself has nothing to do with your issue. My
assumption is that you could come up with ANY file extension and you
would get the same error, that the file is in use. Perhaps the files
were already open in FileMaker when you tried renaming them or
converting them into a runtime? Your FM files should be closed when
doing this.
