Hi,
I want to browse text blocks in an edit box or similar but but prevent
making changes (even if the user has write permissiont to db). So - is
there other way to writeprotect edit box than prevent enterin it?

you have fieldA which you want to protect
create a new calculated field cB <text; fieldA>
and put this field on the layout.

Ok, not modifiable if the option checked but guess have to live with the
sounded alarms if hit any other key than cursor...
