Using FM Pro 4.1 (on a Windows 95 box) is there some way that I can
assign keyboard commands to a custom button.

One of the users of our system has carpal tunnel problems and would prefer
to use keyboard commands rather than the mouse.

I searched this news group and the Tech Info DB but so far to no avail.

TIA

My wife, a heavy user of speech-recognition software, is also in search of
the same solution. Any help would be most appreciated.

She uses multiple voice programs on PCs and IBM's ViaVoice on an IMac, and
nothing recognizes FileMaker buttons.

TIA, jf

The only easy way is by playing with the order of your scripts. You see,
there are default shortcuts assigned to the top ten scripts you have in
the "Scripts" menu.

I believe on a PC they are cntrl-0 through cntrl-9. Of course, you can
decide which scripts are to be displayed in the "Scripts" menu with the
check mark on the left.

Have a good one,

If you're looking for something beyond what's already been mentioned (re:
scripts), you may want to look into a program called QuicKeys, which is
available on the Mac and PC. You can use it to define key shortcuts to your
defined key sequences. There are others which are similar, but my only
experience is with QuicKeys.

I don't know of a PC equivalent to QuicKeys. But if your employee is only
using the keyboard, she is likely to make her CT problem worse. CTS is
avoided by having the hands change position rather than remaining
continuously stationary (which is why this wasn't a problem for manual
typewriters). The true solution is an ergonomically correct mouse and
keyboard. Anything else is a stopgap measure.

There is a PC version of QuicKeys.
