Newbie of Filemaker

We recently purchased a software solution based on FileMaker Pro, which
comprises of a numerous clients running Filemaker pro 5, Filemaker Server
and of course Filemaker unlimited (wanting to extend this out to the
internet).

This solution requires certain accumulative information from our legacy
system, my problem is... I want to automate this entirely. The legacy is a
Progress system on a AIX box. I can use SQL and DTS to take data from the
legacy system and manipulate it. Then use FileMaker's odbc for sql to
import the data.

To automate, I'm looking at creating interfaces between the two systems,
utilizing Visual Basic. From What I've read, I'm thinking you should be
able to do this. I know from Visual Basic you can access certain objects
and methods from FileMaker, limited though. Any assistance or knowledge of
this would be helpfull.
