Hello,

we have to transfer some data (especially Pictures) from a FileMaker
4.0-application into a Visual-FoxPro 6.0-application.

Because nobody of our team has any experiences with FileMaker, we need some
hints, how to export these neccessary data into a Visual-FoxPro-compatible
format.

An other solution could be a programmer who writes such an export-module for
us (surely with payment), so that we use this module to export the data and
import it than into our VFP-application.

Thank You very much

Hi Thomas -

Are your images written into the container fields or references as links?

Thanks -
James

Hello James,

I don't know really, but I think they are written into the container fields,
because there are no separate image-files in the project, so the images are
part of the FileMaker-database.

Thanks for Your answer

Hi again Thomas -

I'm afraid the manual is pretty specific about it. Container fields can't be
exported, probably because FM includes no export filters for graphic filetypes.
In fact, the manual specifically says you have to copy and paste to move
container contents to another database. I don't know of a workaround if the
files are written internally. Maybe someone else has come up with something.
Sorry!

Best of Luck -

Actually they could be exported through odbc, since it is possible to get the data
(but not modify them in the database). You might have to upgrade to FM5. If your
other application as an odbc support surely you can arrange something or get a
programmer to do it. If i remember right when you get the picture through odbc they
will give them in jpg format. Perhaps by publishing your database on the web
(localy) and use an application to read and export them in the other
application.....so you might not have to upgrade to fm5....

Anyhow, visual foxpro should have an odbc import/export option...upgrading to fm5
might be worth it because you wouldnt have to hire anyone to do it (if it is well
done in fm and foxpro).

Hi Thomas:

Here's an idea:

Stop thoughtlessly doing what your corporate masters demand, and
instead, do the right thing instead of the Microsoft thing.

Good luck, you fucking dumbass,

blue,

I hope I read your post wrong. If not, you're a jerk. Why do you care if someone
likes a different software than you? Life is too short to insult people, help
try to make things better and not worse. I'm sorry you had a bad day.
