Can anyone tell me from the point of a fresh lets say win95/98 install
what needs to be done to connect to a Btrieve database, preferably
using ODBC, but if there is an easier way I'll grab. If anyone knows
of any good sites on the subject I would be much obliged. I have tried
to connect to both *.dat and *.btr using ODBC, both of which claim to
be Btrieve. I confused.

John,

To use Btrieve with ODBC you need:

1) The Btrieve Data file
2) Correct DDF files (Data Defintion Files)
3) Btrieve32 bit Work Station or Server engine with 32 bit requesters
on WS
4) ODBC driver installed and Data Source created.

If you have all of this, what errors do you get?

Thanks

I am a total newbie to Btrieve. We just want to convert these files to
flat files, import into access, whatever. The data files have BTR
extention, no DDF extentions I can find. A couple of files or
importance I have heard are IMDB10.BTR and IMDB14.BTR (hope this
helps). Keep in mind all want to to is export to a flat ascii file.
End of task.

You might take a look at BtSearch to build your DDF files. It is a Windows
program made just for Btrieve files. BtSearch will also export your data to
dbase or ascii format after you have created the DDF files. You can download
at www.nss.addr.com.
