ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

Hi,

I have an oracle client instlled on my machine. I configured my machine
to access the remote database which i did by configuring TNSnames.ora
and listner.ora. I am now able to connect to my server machine. But i
when i try to access my local database with scott/tiger I could not as
i repeatedly get the error "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error". Can
anyone provide the solution for this. I will remain thankful for the
same.
