I want to create a composite curve from two intersection model edges.
They are tangent ans SW reports them as intersecting. However, it
fails.
Luckily, it reports exactly what is going wrong with the useful message
"Failed to create a composite curve".

Any reasons why this might happen?

Oh, the same thing happens when trying to knit surfaces. :(

I was recently working on a closed-end coil spring and ran into a similar
problem. For a curve, tangent and intersecting are the same thing. SW won't
create intersecting curves.

Even if it did, a swept feature based on the curve would fail because they
can't self-intersect (or contact) either! In case you were wondering why the
helix of the spring in the SW library (closed & ground) has a pitch on the
closed end slightly and arbitrarily larger than the wire diameter...

I have "Failed to solve your problem" but at least you now know what to work
around.

I created a composite curve from another set of edges that were
intersecting but not tangent. I know SW can do this... just not for me
in this circumstance.

I have also pretty much give up sweeps for the reason you mentioned. My
life is now full of lofted surfaces. At least it tries to be.

Still Sad in Solidworks,

Maybe using the new "split curve" thingy would bully through it, putting the
split at the point of tangency?

No, A split curve did not work either... tried that a while ago.

However, this did work: Instead of using the edge as part of the
composite curve, I created a curve through reference points using the
two verticies of the edge. Then picked this curve and the intersecting
one, and tada!

Thanks for the ideas,
