Is anyone familiar with these cool gadgets? It is a sliding aparatus
that lists all kinds of cool info on different size and type nuts and
bolts, thread info, sheet metal info, etc etc etc. VERY VERY handy.

Anyways, I want to know where I can find these things so I can buy
another (mine is a bit cracked)

Any help out there?

Nick

Hmm,.. scan in the top, bottom of your cracked card and sliding insert,
decal them on to two modeled sldprts, the outer card with windows and
insert card, assemble, set PW to interactive, and move/slide the insert.

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you can take you scanned images and do this
with html or with flash.

.. 8^)

Ahhhh.... Paul--you miss the point --sure, you could set up some sort of PC
application, but why would you want to????

the great thing about this widget is that it doesn't require using the
computer--it contains a mountain of data, beautifully organized, and it sits
on my desk ready for consultation at any time. I don't have to launch an
app, worry about software compatibility, change windows, key in a number,
etc, etc. I've probably got the same data in a dozen places, but this
little chunk of plastic is BY FAR the most convenient place to refer to
it--and all for under $20.

English & Metric

Well I will be darn....

I have been looked for these thingy's for over 3 years. They are the
greatest reference items I have ever used.

A co-worker had these at a previous place I worked. I even called him to
get the name and address off of them. But I have never been able to find
them. I never thought to post here to see if anyone knew where to get
them...DUH

I will definitely order one tomorrow for sure.

Here is a link to the old Holo-Krome charts for inch & metric, but they're
not as comprehensive as the TAD charts are. There is also an Unbrako screw
data chart on the page that I'm not familiar with.

http://www.atlanticfasteners.com/technical/gauges.html

Another alternative to the TAD charts is the Alvin Screw Data Selector. It
has nearly the same information that the TAD chart has, but not quite the
range in sizes (#0 - 1" for screws). I don't think it's available in metric
though. You can buy this from the MSC catalog (www.mscdirect.com), item
#89900229 for less than $9.00, a lot cheaper than the TAD. I have also seen
it at art supply websites but MSC is probably the cheapest.

I have both the Alvin & the Holo-Krome. The Alvin is the much better choice
of the two.

I have the TAD and the Alvin. For whatever reason I tend to reach for the
TAD first, and if I don't find what I want, then I move over to the Alvin.

Just a thought...

You might be able to get these for free from the vendor you buy all your
fasteners from. Maybe? Doesn't hurt to ask. I think that's where the pile
of them came from at the large engineering house I use to work at (I can't
picture them spending the money for them).

What do you know, I have the Unbrako chart. It was left here in the
engineering office over 20 years ago. It is laminated cardboard and looks
identical to the picture except for the rivets. I always assumed it came
form a fastener vendor. I actually use it all the time. It is not as
extensive as the TAD chart, but much more reasonably priced.
