Just create a plot file using the jpeg.plt plot driver located in
c:\win32app\ustation\plotdrv.

Hope that is what you are looking for.

| As the subject suggests, I need to convert from DGN to JPG. What is it

Nathan,

One of the delivered plot drivers is a Jpeg one.
If you have several files to convert. Then you could use the Batchplot and
this driver in SE or J.

There are also, Tiff drivers as well.

You could also do a utilities -> image -> save

either way.

Chad

Hi Chad,

I tried the utilities -> image -> save method, but the resolution was quite
poor.

I'm using Microstation '95 which doesn't seem to have the JPEG.plt driver.

Any other suggestions?? I only need to do one file.

Nathan.

I've speant a lot of time on this, and the best I can do is use the "image
save" function in Microstation. That's if you have a raster image in the
background, and if not, then I would use the Tiff or Jpg plot driver and boost
the resolution up as far as I can. Remember that what you see on the screen is
what will show up in the image, so you have to have your colours looking right
and opaque fills turned white.

Another option is if you have Descartes, to use the "vector stamp" function.
This copies any or all vectors into a blank image, which you can then export
to any format you want.

I don't remember if 95 had it but, the easiest way is to use the
HTML Author (under Utilities ?). This generates an HTML file with
a jpeg image. Really quick - again, if this was available in 95.
This is also a quick way to get your stuff to the web, word document
or into any program capable of opening HTML pages (which is just
about everything these days).

Another way, also quick, is to do a screen capture with your image
editing app (i.e. PhotoPaint, PicturePublisher, PaintShopPro, etc.).

For higher resolutions, use the 'save image' option and DEFINE the
resolution you want (type in your size in pixels i.e. 1024 X ... using
about 300 pixels per inch of output size :)

That's about all I can suggest in addition to previous help.

I don't know if these are the best but they work very well for me...
i just bump the resolution of the monitor up and do a screen capture
http://www.geo.wvu.edu/~AJONES/4LAYER.JPG
this image was created with 4 screen captures... and i laid them together
in photoshop. but you can capture the screen many different ways...
in NT just hit shift+print screen

and you can do several capture screens in microstation at the command line
The Screen Capture utility ("scrncapt.ma") is used to make a "screen shot" of
all or part of a MicroStation screen and save it in a specified file format.
It is designed to take snapshots of items in MicroStation's or an MDL
application's graphical user interface -- such as tool boxes, dialog boxes,
and pull-down menus -- for use in documentation or training manuals.

Screen Capture captures an image at the resolution of the monitor being used,
exactly as it appears on screen, except that the screen pointer is not shown.

some key-ins are

CAPTURE SCREEN Capture Screen

CAPTURE RECTANGLE Capture Rectangle

CAPTURE VIEW CONTENTS Capture View

CAPTURE VIEW WINDOW Capture View Window

hope this helps,
Abe

Hi,

the proper way should be like this.

first, determine the background color that you want. then change it using
the colour table dialog box. then you send it to plot. Under plot, drivers,
choose a driver file that consists of jpeg. I have forgotten the name. then
send it for plotting as per normal. that is.

I have spent a long time, trying to find the best way of exporting from
microstation to raster files & found that if the one of the postscript
printer drivers is used then photoshop (version 4 or higher) will import the
postscript file & rasterise it.
This technique lets you specify the resolution within photoshop, & also lets
you antialias the lines. I have created very large files this way (15000 x
15000 x 256 colours) for outputing to an imagesetter.
