I have a large project to do. The final electronic files for this project
must be in AutoCAD format. One requirement for this project are that all
elements must be drawn BYLAYER (in other words every combination of color
and linetype needs its own special layer). Another requirement is that the
layer names used must be to AIA standards. I can easily map level numbers
to layernames when exporting my MicroStation *.dgn files but for all the
entities to wind up BYLAYER my level symbology must be on in the dgn when
I export. This causes a significant problem because I have a large library
of standard detail cells which are not drawn BYLAYER. Does anyone have any
idea how I can easily export my cell libraries to AutoCAD blocks. I also
have a problem with dimension elements , they are automatically dropped
when I export them.

Any help or advice is welcome
Thanks in advance

Dave,

Maybe a good news for you: we are starting dwgout/R13 beta test and you
are welcome to participate in this program. With this new version of
dwgout you can map a color number or a line style number to be BYLAYER
or BYBLOCK, i.e. you are no longer required to use level symbology in
order to assign BYLAYER to an entity in dwg. Together with the level
mapping table, which you already have, this new feature should solve
your problem. Other users who do round trip translations will also find
this feature useful to keep BYLAYER/BYBLOCK by storing them in the
mapping tables. The philosophy behind such implementation is to let
user himself to drive a vehicle transporting information (level, color,
etc.) between two systems that honor different properties (level
symbology, BYLAYER, etc.).

This version also exports true dimensions (linear, radial, circular,
angular, ordinal, and leader dimensions) to acad files. Send your
request to beta...@bentley.com or directly fill up a beta test form at
http://www.bentley.com/products/beta/betainfoform.htm and be sure to
state a request for dwgout/R13 beta.

Regards,
Don Fu
