I am looking for info on how to get the filename/time/date stamp on my
plots. Actually is there a way to put it at the edge of a sheet border in
the dgn then when you create a plot file it updates the time and date. I
know about the time and date stamp that can be added in your plot drive in
only a specific location.

Help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

In Plot dialog there is a menu Pentables. Ther you can find tools to do a lot
of things and probably plot a date.

Rob,

We use a string of text between the border and the trim lines of our plots
that looks like this:

DESIGN FILE:$DGNSPECIFICATIONS$
WORKSTATION:$$TERMINAL$$
DATE: $$$DATE$$$

and have our IPLOT or PLOT pentable look for and replace those strings of text
with "filename" "username" and "date".

iplot syntax looks like this:

if (type .EQ. TEXT) then
priority=11
if (characters .eq. '$$$$$.DGNFILESPECIFICATIONS$$$$$') then
characters=DGNSPEC
else if (characters .eq. '$$$$$DATE$$$$$') then
characters=DATE
else if (characters .eq. '$TERMINAL$') THEN
CHARACTERS=USERNAME
endif
endif

PLOT SYNTAX LOOKS LIKE THIS:

BEGIN_STRINGS
"$$$$$.DGNFILESPECIFICATIONS$$$$$" = "_FILE_"
"$TERMINAL$" = "$(USERNAME)"
"$$$$$DATE$$$$$" = "_DATE_"
"$$$$$FILENAME$$$$$" = "_FILE_"
END_STRINGS

Good Luck

Ray,

Thanks for the info, but I can't seem to get it to work. I am plotting
using Microstation to a plot file. I put the text exactly as you typed it
in my pen table and placed the :

DESIGN FILE:$DGNSPECIFICATIONS$
WORKSTATION:$$TERMINAL$$

DATE: $$$DATE$$$ $$$TIME$$$ ------ (I added the Time, also place it
in my pen table just like the date.)

at my drawing border. But with my pen table loaded it plots exactly as it
looks in the dgn. A few questions just so I am understanding what this is
doing. Do the "$" has to match from the pen table to the dgn text? Also,
why the "$"?
and in the pen table you had me put "$$$$$FILENAME$$$$$" = "_FILE_" but
there was no reference to this for the dgn. Thanks for the help.

By the way what district do you work for?? I am originally from Ohio and an
Ohio State grad. I also co-oped 4 summers during school in district 9. I
now work for an consulting firm in WV.

Thanks again.

Rob

ROB,

I DON'T KNOW WHY THAT ISN'T WORKING FOR YOU...BUT I HAVE FOUND ANOTHER METHOD
OF GETTING THE SAME INFO INTO YOUR PLOT...IN THE MICROSTATION PLOT DIALOG
BOX...UNDER THE PENTABLE PULL DOWN...THERE IS A MODIFY LISTING...PICK IT
AND THE MODIFY PEN TABLE DIALOG WILL APPEAR...IN THE GLOBAL ACTIONS YOU WILL SEE
A
"TEXT SUBSTITUTIONS" BUTTON...CLICK ON THERE AND YOU WILL SEE A NEW DIALOG
BOX...UNDER IT'S PULL DOWN OF EDIT THERE IS A INSERT "FILENAME", "DATE", AND
"TIME".

MAYBE THIS WILL HELP YOU...SAVE THE CHANGES YOU MAKE TO YOUR PENTABLE AND THEN
PLOT...IF IT WORKS THEN VIEW THE PENTABLE IN NOTEPAD AND SEE WHAT THE SYNTAX
FOR YOUR USE IS...BUT LIKE I SAID I DUNNO WHY IT ISN'T WORKING FOR YOU...

GOOD LUCK
RAY

The text to be substituted in the design file must be a single text node.

for example:

DESIGN FILE:$DGNSPECIFICATIONS$

The above text would must consist of two text nodes.

DESIGN FILE: is node #1
$DGNSPECIFICATIONS$ is node #2, which will be substituted.
