Hello i am a microstation v5 user.
Is there anybody familiar how i can copy a part of drawing into another
drawing without
using the cell libary function.
I have heard that you can do it with the use of xref and a fence.
If there is anybody who can help us please send us an e-mail
The e-mail adres is wip...@worldonline.nl

Thank you very much

Another way is to use File Fence ...

place a fence around the elements you wish to copy

key-in "FF=\dir\file.dgn"

MAKE SURE file.dgn DOES NOT ALREADY EXIST, or its contents will be
replaced by the fenced elements....

File Fence Keyin

1.) Place a fence around what you want to copy.

2.) Keyin "ff=<filename.dgn>"

3.) Enter and place data point to accept.

This will copy the fence contents into a new design file with the name
specified.
The default path for the new file will be \ustation\out\dgn I think.

V5 eh...let me think back. Just kidding I don't believe there is a
thing called xref in MS that sounds like a AC term. I have used in the
input box after placing a fence ff=filename.dgn that's for a fence copy
or sf=filename.dgn for a fence move to another file or new file...but
both of these will overide everything in that destination file your best
bet is in a top view drw a line from xy=,,, to your part.....window the
objects you want to copy including the line and ctrl-c (copy to
clipboard)...go to other file and ctrl-v (paste) ....ten move while its
still selected from end of line to xy=,,, (don't forget the up arrow
featue on previous inputs)...hope this helps

An additional suggestion.

If you desire to effect te attributes (change them in a global nature) upon
copying them through. You might consider using something like Amove.

go to the following site
http://www.teleport.com/~hksys/
then access the download page, and look for amove.

You still follow the same steps in regards to attaching the file, setting it
scale, location, rotations, levels, etc the way you wish. place a fence and :

(if using amove) in the command line, the following.
mdl l amove
fence acopy (LCWS or lcws or LcWs) using caps it will modify the fences
elements to the active attributes. or else will use the existing. l-level,
c-color, w-weight, s-style.

I can't recall how to customize v5, but I have the variations, minus lcws, in
a tool pallette. Then I just select the function and go.

hth,
Chad

btw, if copying in mlines, be certain the the effect mline toggle are set in
both the copy and mirror tools accordingly.

Just a word of warning before using the file fence command. If you give
the name of an existing file in "ff=<filename.dgn>", the existing file
will be emptied (all elements removed) before the fence contents are
merged in.

I do it all the time.
1. Open the file you want to put the drawing into as the working .DGN.
2. Open the file(s) you want to take the drawing from as a reference
file. Make sure "locate" is "on" for the reference file.
3. Turn off the levels of anything in the working file you do not want
duplicates of.
4. Place a fence.
5. Do a fence copy. Leaving the cursor in the same place for the "to"
point will do most of the time. If precision input is required, use
a monument point and snap to it for both "from" and "to".
6. The levels of the copied elements will be the same in the destination
file as they were for the source file. It is likely that some or all
of the copied elements will be invisible in the destination file. You
will have to turn those levels back on (see step 3).

You can copy and paste elements in just the same way as in any other windows
application like a word processor or somthing

select all the elements with the select tool and <edit><copy> (or however
you have the copy command set up in your menu system)

then open the recipiant file and <edit><paste> (you may need to mess arround
with the scale while you paste though)

hope this helps
