I seem to remember somebody once saying that it was possible to use the
EDG program from the DOS command line without first having to start the
Microstation graphics engine first then shelling out to DOS. Can
anybody confirm if this is so, and how is it done.
Thanks in advance

This is correct. The EDG command is entirely independent of the
MicroStation graphics environment and is executed with the EDG
executable in the EDG directory. We've been unable to perform EDG on
dgn files located on a novell network server, so if we're doing EDG, we
copy the file to a local drive.
Within version 4 MicroStation, a "ustation NULL" or equivalent
was required(started a subsystem of MicroStation) to run
EDG. This is no longer the case in MicroStation 95.
For additional information reference the EDG TechNote found on
the SELECT Online WEB page.

Hope this helps,

I've installed MicroStation in a directory called
ustn95. Then I type in c:\ustn95\edg\edg and off
it goes. I can also add the filename to
automatically open that file. For Windows you can
make an icon with that command line.
and don't require MS to even be installed.
Regards,
Don.
