I want to know how Microstation process elements to make them invisible. I
mean, is there a bit (or byte) in element structure that can be turned
on/off.
Thanks.
Changing element's class to "construction",
and switching off displaying construction elements
for instance should meet your requirements.
Possibly moving to undisplyaed level too.

For older MicroStations (up to v7, i.e. uStn/J), level 0 is a good candidate (it is always
invisible). This practice may be viewed as corrupting file (only complex headers are
supposed to occupy level 0), but surprizingly often it works well.
I have used this technique on uStn v2 and v3, where User Commands (UCM) was basically
all you've got.
Note, that this trick will not work in uStn v8.
Cheers,

I saw some utility programs can turn on/off elements according to their
symbology. Another example of what I want to do is Geographics's feature
manager..
Thanks

I believe this works this way,
or something really similar in MSGG.
See textwash MDL example -
there is some more explanation.
