Hi,

How can I create a sweep thru a path and up to the surface of each end
of path (Note that the Path curve does not normal to the surfaces).

Thanks

Can you better describe this? Are the surfaces part of a solid model,
or are they just surfaces?

Do you want the sweep to terminate at the surface? Does the path
terminate at the surface as well?

Are the surfaces planar or freeform?

What are your plans for the model? Can this operation be done as a
seperate part, or does it need to be fully associative?

Doug,

See below steps that I have tried.

Step 1
extrude rectangle to make solid block
step 2
draw a spline on each face of block (Use sketch in place)
step 3
create surface by boundary (use four curves that created in step 2)
in the middle of block
Step 4
cut the top portion of block using surface that created in step 3
Step 5
Sketch the spline on the bottom surface of block
Note " Both ends of spline are coincident with both right & left
surfaces of block.
Step 6
Project the spline that created in step 5 onto the top surface of block
(boundary surface)
Step 7
Created a groove cut on top BD surface using the sweep thru the project
spline.
However, the groove does not cut thru. both right & left face of block
because
the project spline does not normal to both faces.

I also tried to create a suface sweep - add (not cut) and extend the
both ends of
surface sweep to both right & left faces. And then extract that surface
to difference part.
Created cut using cutter part is the extract surface and part to cut is
block.
I don't think this is a right way to do.

Thanks

Sorry for long reply time. (I am in the fire right now...)

Your problem is the lack of a curve that extends far enough to create
the proper sweep solid.

Had another idea:

Extract the top surface of the block and untrim it. Then project,
sweep, extract and cut as above.

The only other option I can think of, that would be associative
involves building extra tangent curves after the project. Doing this
requires use of the tools found on the shape design panel.

LinuxCAD is today's leading computer aided design and drafting program for
The Linux Operating System.

LinuxCAD has grown in sales and functionality since its original
introduction in 1998.

LinuxCAD now represents a complete computer aided design program for
Linux ...
it is a complete replacement for AutoCAD. For any practical purpose,
it implements all major features of AutoCAD in such a way that experienced
AutoCAD users do not need additional training to start working with
LinuxCAD.

Linux users who are new to CAD will find our Users Manual an easy way to
learn the CAD trade. There is so much similarity between LinuxCAD and
AutoCAD,
that while learning LinuxCAD, you will simultaneously learn AutoCAD.

With remarkable ease you will find yourself creating all kinds of
technical illustrations, diagrams, sketches and industrial quality drawings.

Suggested Uses: flowcharting,land surveying,mechanical drawing ,
architectural drafting, entity relationship diagramming ,software
engineering diagramming.

This is a professional quality graphics modelling package for Linux !!!
A must have for every Linux user !!!
Implements all core features of AutoCAD in a very compatible way !!!
No learning curve for AutoCAD users !!!
