I have been trying unsuccessfully to connect to the Autodesk ftp site at
ftp://ftp.autodesk.com/ and think that maybe I am doing something wrong
with the anonymous login or some such nonsense. I am using ws_ftp and
netscape, but neither are able to connect. This used to work for me but I
do not know what happened. Netscape seems to find the host, but hangs
with the message "contacting host 198.93.152.12:33145..." Eventually it
times out. Is this a result of the autdesk site being overloaded?

Any suggestions! Thanks, for your help!

In article <3ttrfq$s...@over.mhv.net>, gbr...@mhv.net says...

The Autodesk ftp site is not NETSCAPE compliant (use winQTV or another
FTP program)

this site is NETSCAPE compliant - ftp.synapse.net/private/c/cadsyst

I've been trying recently myself to contact the Adesk ftp site myself
through AOL's ftp client. In the past, I've been successful, and have
easily been able to download the R13a, R13c1 and R13c2 patches. In the
past couple weeks, Autodesk has not accepted my "anonymous" login, which
tells me that the folks from Autodesk have "secured" their ftp site from
what they identify as "intruders" (you and me).

Never fear. You can contact Adesk through WWW. Simply go
"http://www.autodesk.com" and you should be able to access a number of
materials from the big "A". Mostly you will find sales materials, but
there are some technical bulletins and "Aha!" ACAD patches

One problem: The Adesk website has been "down" the past couple of days. I
do not know why (anyone out there who knows?)

Good luck!

FYI
I was able to connect to the Autocad ftp site today,
and I was able to download the patchs. I am using Netscape

They still do not have C3.

I have the sadme problem, and it even identified one time that there
were only 8 people there out of a possible 200 users. I get the
initial screen message and then watch an hourglass....

DITTO..I have tried with ws_ftp, Netscape, Netcom, Procomm's ftp
upgrade, and I have asked several friends to try..to no avail. Yes we
can all get to the Web page...just not much there. The only success I
have had is to gopher to the ftp site...that has worked and I can
download with "get" files on a gopher. Not my preference, but it has
been working.

I just connected with the site ftp//ftp.autodesk.com at 7 pm EST, 9/4/95 (Sunday). I
noticed that many of the subdirectories are either empty or I get a "cannot connect"
message when trying to reach them. I also noticed that the subdirectories, by and
large, have a creation date of 8/26/95, and I suspect that AutoDesk is doing some
"construction" at this site.

Thanks for the address of the site, as I am trying to get a driver to download. I
will definitely try back in a week or so to see if they have the site organized by
then.

I've been flamed for saying so - in a different group - but the
AutoCrap WebMeister is hanging out in groups for websites and the like asking
"How do I..."

Now, nothing personal is intended towards him as an individual but it bespeaks
the policy and the bullshit support Auntie Carol and her cronies have cooked up
for all of us fools who have bought and stoopitly continue to buy AutoCrap.

I have tried and I do connect yet when I try to download a file
netscape or ws-ftp says retrieving file yet nothing happens.

I patiently tried a few times and was intermittently lucky in actually
suceeding over a period of 1 week to download the r13c3 patch.

I now want the c3readme.txt file and no way can I get it.
This is a real Shitty way of communicating with their users by the
Autodesk company.

Not only did they high handedly dispense with dxf (saying that cos
they have 80% of the cad market , all third parties should recognise
the dwg format), R13 aint as fast as prior releases.

Too much shit in an overblown package(r13) and too little shit in LT.

Where does one go if one wants a godd 2 or 3d package with programming
and customisation but no add on extras?

Perhaps for speed I should go back to 9.

Netscape 1.1N on my HP-UX workstation is stable as a rock in
ftp://ftp.autodesk.com at 4:00 PM Autodesk local time. I pulled over
that readme file and mailed it to you. Then I connected with HP-UX's
character mode ftp client. It worked like a charm. The login message
showed:
There are 16 out of a possible 200 users signed on.

If you don't use render or 3-D, the acad13 will be useless
to you. Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time on it.

I have (finally) gotten all of the bugs out and re-cutomized
our third party autolisp menu software.

My drafts(people) won't use it. They say that it's too slow.
It's a huge waste of money.

I'd like to see a revision 13 patch that doesn't try to render 2-d
drawings all the time. Also, I am tired of waiting for the darn thing
to render it's own vapid logo every time it boots up. Also, I am waiting
for a reply from autodesk as to why my 2-d files are automatically
blown up to 3-d size. Did anyone notice that the 'reply to newsgroup'
to that supposed autodesk techwriter was eaten by the lineater?
Did anyone get a reply from that dweeb? I didn't.
