This week I'm working on some drawings, that contain references to a
missing font: sas_____.pfb. AutoCAD opens with an error message, and
tells me that it has replaced [SANSS___.TTF] for [sas_____.pfb].
The finished drawings are going to be sent to another company, and I
figured it wouldn't look good for this customer to open the drawings
and find an error, especially one we can prevent. So I asked the
client to send me the PFB font.
The client says that they have asked their IT guys and they simply
can't find this font anywhere on their system. The company has gone
through some reorganizations, and the original drawings might be
several years old (although they were revised earlier this year).
They also sent me some plots and this font looks something like Arial,
or San Serif.
In another recent posting in this group, it mentioned that PFB fonts
are obsolete. Even if it was current, it's probably a better idea to
change the font than to send along the font file and ask the
downstream customer to install it somewhere.
I then suggested to the customer that we can change the drawings to
point to a newer standard font.
Is this the best idea? Is there a quick way for me to change this
reference, in 77 drawings? It appears only as part of the title
block, in a style called SANSERIF.
The AutoCAD help files are not very helpful when it comes to making a
permanent font change like this. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Steven Marzuola

If a man speaks in the forest and no woman hears him, is he still wrong?
1. Is there any reason NOT to switch to a TTF font?
2. If not, is the font SANSS___.TTF generally available? Or would I be
replacing one problem with another?
3. If I shouldn't use any TTF, then is there any good alternative to?
It's not a critical part of the logo (a company that bought another
company, just added the buyer's name to the logo).
Thanks for any suggestions.

we now use: San Serif.
It is very similar so the change does not adversely affect our title blocks, etc.
I don't know of a quick way to convert a large number of drawings. we did it to all of our masters and on an as-needed basis manually.
I'm sure there's a lisp routine out there somewhere that could batch convert several drawings at once. especially if it involves the same text style in each drawing?.
