We are going to be importing scanned drawings (as TIFF) and wondering what
the best method/product is. I have heard that Hijack Pro offers a myriad
of conversion utilities, but haven't seen any postings about its
capabilities (Good, bad or indifferent) in the CAD newsgroups. Anyone have
any experience or knowledge about converting scanned drawings to vector
format(namely, IGES)?

HiJaak is a good way to convert raster->raster and vector->vector. It
does not do raster->vector.

Take a look at the Autodesk web page at:

http://www.icp.com/autodesk/isv/isvcat20.htm

for raster to vector developers. You can use the Autocad Iges
Translator once you convert the Tiff files to dwg.

Actually, HiJaak Pro does do raster to vector using the trace command.
It will create a DXF or WMF vector file. It is not very useful for
complex work because it has essentially no adjustable tracing parameters.
I would not think it useful for most CAD work.

A Raster file cannot be converted into Vector directly.You need to use any of the
third party applications like Cad overlay etc., and use its features to convert
them into a Vector drawing.
