We're hoping that Eagle Point 98
will fix some of the bugs, but the main problem seems to be with
"Roadcalc", which we understand has not yet been upgraded with the EP98
package which is supposed to be shipping soon. We have received some
suggestions to add more Ram to our computers (increase from 64mb to at
least 128mb), which we plan to do, but there appear to be other problems
not related to memory capacity. If any of you have any other
advice or suggestions at all about how to work around these problems I
would greatly appreciate your input.
Please understand that I am not trying to start a "Holy War" between
Softdesk, EaglePoint or any other application software company.
I just want to know what we can do, if anything, to make our current
design software work properly. Thanks so much for your help.

To: Autocad R14/Eagle Point Users (Including Roadcalc Module),
who may be having similar problems
Re: Problems with Lock-Ups, Shut-Downs, etc.
Our firm specializes primarily in municipal civil engineering services,
including design of streets, drainage, water and wastewater facilities.
We have about 25 employees and have over 12 Autocad R14/Eagle Point work
stations. We have used Eagle Point for several years and have been
generally pleased with this product.
We recently upgraded from Autocad R12 to R14 and are using the Eagle
Point patch for R14 while we are waiting for release of Eagle Point 98.
Most of our problems seem to be related to the Roadcalc Module, but we
have also had some difficulties with the Drafting Module as well.
Here is the configuration of our Eagle Point Computers:
Dell Pentium 300mhz computers
64 Mb Ram (We will be upgrading to at least 128 Mb)
8.4 gb HD
Microsoft NT 4.0 Operating System
AutoCAD R14 Win/NT
We have been in communication with Eagle Point technical support, but
our problems have not yet been resolved. Our productivity has dropped
tremendously due to these "apparently" Eagle Point-related problems, and
we are desperate to find some solutions so we can get our projects out.
We have documented most of our problems in writing and sent our detailed
write-ups to Eagle Point for their use in helping us resolve our
problems. Our problems still remain unresolved by Eagle Point technical
support, so we were hoping some of you Eagle Point users may be able to
assist us with answers and solutions to our questions.
Here is a summary from some of our Troubleshooting logs:
1. Name: CLS
Date: 6/1/98
Problem: ROADCALC: I was attempting to add a new VPI
in my profile section, when I hit the new VPI
button the command line read:
Loading ...
Reading Files ...
Then the machine locked up.
2. Name: SAG
Date: 5/28/98
Problem: (1) Moved nodes and was kicked out of the
drawing -- was not saved.
(2) Have to click on zoom button numerous
times before icon is engaged.
3. Name: SAG
Date: 5/22/98
Problem: Tried to move a node to view the elevation.
After picking the node and htting the enter
key, I was kicked out of the drawing without
being able to save the work.
4. Name: CLS
Date: 5/27/98
Problem: While in Rufe Snow Drawing (North of RR), I
was attempting to extract cross-sections from
the Surface Model. The computer, without
warning, proceeded to kick me out of EP and
ACAD and back to the windows start-up screen.
When I booted the drawing back up, the
sub-project that I was working in was locked.
5. Name: CLS
Date: 5/6/98
Problem: EP bogged down. OSNAPS would not work very
quickly. Commands (Icons & keyboard) took
a long time to function.
6. Name: CLS
Date: 5/12/98
Problem: Tried to copy file from LDR's machine via the
network. Explorer worked slowly and jittered
when trying to scroll the files.
7. Name: CLS
Date: 5/14/98
Problem: While trying to plot file (8meg), computer
slowed down and seemed to be using 31 minutes
to accomplish Print Preview command.
8. Name: CLS
Date: 5/14/98
Problem: While trying to use the Pan command, the
computer is using 100% of the CPU and 20.5 meg
of memory. Eventually, it worked but it took
an unreasonable amount of time.
9. Name: LDR
Date: 3/30/98
Problem: EP kicked me completely out while trying to
execute the erase command. This occurred
while picking the objects using a crossing
window. Time lost was about 1.5 hours.
10. Name: LDR
Date: 4/1/98
Problem: EP kicked me completely out while trying
to execute the rotate command on a node.
This occurred two times during the day. Time
lost was about 2.5 hours.
11. Name: LDR
Date: 4/9-10/98
Problem: EP kicked me completely out while trying to
execute the rotate command on a line & 2D
polyline. Time lost about 2 hours. I contacted
EP Technical Support for assistance. They
assigned no. 57346 for this problem. Their
solution was to adjust the range of virtual memory
settings to 150-300. I have experienced similar
problems with EP since this time. I have been
completely checked out of EP while moving various
objects around. EP has locked up the computer on
one occasion while in the profile module drawing
in the profile section.
12. Name: GRP
Date: 5/18/98
Problem: After using EP to bring in a point file with Pt No,
X, Y, and Z values, I am not able to go back into
the new drawing and change point styles. When
trying to do so, the existing points grow to
about 100% of screen size. Must use default point
style of POINT.
13. Name: JOH
Date: 5/21/98
Problem: When trying to add spot elevations from TIM, nothing
is displayed.
14. Name: TEN
Date: 5/14/98
Problem: Lines created in layer "PROP-BC" just disappeared
(some of them). Runing x-sections, and then got back
into drawing several lines were gone! Restored back-up
drawing and they were there.
15. Name: CLS
Date: 6/01/98
Problem: Tried to process x-sections in ROADCALC. The program
seemed to run through the x-sections, but then it
slowed down and eventually kicked me out of the file
and out of the program and back to the main windows
screen without saving any information.
We have numerous other documented problems including case numbers 51066,
54696, etc., which have been partially addressed by EP Technical
Support,
but not yet completely resolved. If any other Eagle Point users are
having simiar problems to our own, could you please offer any
suggestions or advice on resolving these kinds of problems. Thanks so
much for your help.
