Autocad R14 and Softdesk

Does anyone have, or has anyone seen somewhere any information on
Softdesk Civil/Survey and Autocad R14? My company is about to upgrade
from 12 DOS to 13 NT, they've been planning for months... I'm
considering suggesting that we skip 13 and go straight to 14...
Although Softdesk is absolulutely mandatory for the work we do, so the
thought of using 14 is moot if Softdesk isn't availble...
Any info at all would be greatly appriciated. I'll try to read any
follow-ups, but I tend to lose tract of the threads, so email would be
appriciated just in case....

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but AutoDesk bought SoftDesk a short
time ago. Figure that.

Since Autodesk acquired Softdesk (which is its new AEC division), I would
hope that r14 will work with Softdesk Civil/Survey. Of course, knowing
Softdesk and Autodesk, you probably will need to buy a new version of
Civil/Survey.

The current version of Softdesk will not run on R14. The ARX has
been rewritten for R14 and is incompatiblile.
The rumor mill has it that a compatible version of Softdesk will
be released 30-90 days after R14 ships, with a completely redesigned
version (8.0) to ship this fall.
With the new features in R14 I'm anxiously awaiting the new version
of Softdesk.

Softdesk will be one of the first and (as I guess) one of the best
R14 apps. It will be available when R14 is available for sure.
Skipping R13 is okay, buying a new one will bring you a free R14 upgrade
for sure (but when is the date? now or later?)

However, to answer (in part) my own question, I queried one of our CAD
admins today on Acad 14 and Softdesk..... In his word Acad 14 in
amazingly fast... he's been using it for months it seems.... And
softsdesk 7.6 s supposed to be out "within 30 days of the offical
release of R14", now last I heard R14 was due out in May, so I'd
expect it in June, and Softdesk 7.6 to be avalinble two months after
that... ie. August. He mentioned that softdesk is working on 8.0, but
won't be out for a considerable amount of time.... sounds like early
next year at the earliest.....

The deal has not been consumated as of yet. The merely *announced* they were
going to purchase Softdesk. It's not a done deal.

My understanding is that 7.6 is an incremental upgrade and with poor timimg
to boot. It is not intended to support Acad r14 specifically (as far as I
know). If you pay for 7.6 (and you will), you will likely pay for 8.0
(Acadr14 support).
