But if you want a fill font whith SHX, the lot of vectors needed will slow
performance too. And if you use an empty font it will not be really like Tahoma.
Isn't it?

I've not had any difficulties with vector-intensive SHX fonts. To be
honest, though, I've heard so many horror stories about using TT fonts that
I've never tried them. Guess I'll have to get my feet wet...

Don't know why the author has no website. If you look hard on the web, you
can find a teaser demo version (doesn't do the vowels) that will illustrate
that it works.

FONTasm!-v2 will do the TTF -> SHX conversion you require. Reply by email to
request an upload of the pre-release demo for Win32 DirectX (about 300K
zipped).

FONTasm!-v2 converts TrueType and PostScript Type 1 fonts into filled
AutoCAD SHX/SHP fonts, Generic CADD FNT fonts, Visual CADD VCF fonts, and
DXF files.
SHX/SHP fonts: arc-outlines + 7 fill densities, high-performance "fast font"
vector outlines, or 'bitmap' optimized fills. New 'bitmap' SHX fonts,
derived from hinted TrueType letterforms, are tuned to user-specified text
height(s)/plotter resolution(s) for DTP-quality plotted text on all raster
devices. Kerning, sub/superscripts and small caps. Monospaced fonts. Scaling
to match TT or PS fonts in R9-R2000 and LT. Version 1.0, 1.1 or
Unifont SHX formats.
FNT & VCF fonts: Bezier curve based outlines, fillable. Scaling to match
TT fonts in Visual CADD-v2+. TT/PS or native character spacing methods.
DXF files: "exploded" text built with circular arcs + lines (suitable for
CNC applications). R12 ASCII or binary DXF formats.
Windows 95,98,NT4.0+SP3/4/5 (DirectX), DOS DPMI 32/16. Demo available.
USD 99.00 + s/h.
