LTB 2022: The Tenth International Workshop on Load Testing and Benchmarking of Software Systems

ABSTRACT

Software systems (e.g., smartphone apps, desktop applications, telecommunication infrastructures, cloud and enterprise systems, etc.) have strict requirements on software performance. Failure to meet these requirements may cause business losses, customer defection, brand damage and other serious consequences. In addition to conventional functional testing, the performance of these systems must be verified through load testing or benchmarking to ensure quality service. Load testing and benchmarking software systems are difficult tasks, which requires a great understanding of the system under test and customer behavior. Practitioners face many challenges such as tooling (choosing and implementing the testing tools), environments (software and hardware setup) and time (limited time to design, test, and analyze). This one-day workshop brings together software testing researchers, practitioners and tool developers to discuss the challenges and opportunities of conducting research on load testing and benchmarking software systems.

HotCloudPerf 2022: 5th Workshop on Hot Topics in Cloud Computing Performance

ABSTRACT
The HotCloudPerf workshop proposes a meeting venue for academics and practitioners, from experts to trainees, in the field of cloud computing performance. The new understanding of cloud computing covers the full computational continuum from data centers to edge resources to IoT sensors and devices. The workshop aims to engage this community and to lead to the development of new methodological aspects for gaining a deeper understanding not only of cloud performance, but also of cloud operation and behavior, through diverse quantitative evaluation tools, including benchmarks, metrics, and workload generators. The workshop focuses on novel cloud properties such as elasticity, performance isolation, dependability, and other non-functional system properties, in addition to classical performance-related metrics such as response time, throughput, scalability, and efficiency.

The HotCloudPerf workshop is technically sponsored by the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC)’s Research Group (RG) and is organized annually by the RG Cloud Group.

PECS 2022: Workshop on Performance and Energy-efficiency in Concurrent Systems

ABSTRACT
Concurrent systems, based on (distributed) multi/many-core processing units, are the nowadays reference computing architecture. The (continuously-growing) level of hardware parallelism they offer has led these platforms to play a central role at any scale, ranging from data centers, to personal (mobile) devices. Optimizing performance and/or ensuring energy efficiency when running complex software stacks on top of these systems is extremely challenging due to several aspects, like data dependencies or resource sharing (and interference) among application threads, as well as VMs. Furthermore, hardware accelerators like GPGPUs or FPGAs introduce a level of heterogeneity that can potentially offer further opportunities for combined gain in performance and energy efficiency, if correctly exploited.

PANDA 2022: The First International Workshop on Performance-Data Analytics and Data-Management

ABSTRACT

The field of data analytics/science has grown significantly in recent years as a means to make sense of the vast amount of available data. It has come through every aspect of computer science and engineering and is heavily involved in business decision-making. In the field of performance engineering, data analytics is for instance used for performance prediction and hence as a baseline instrument for controlling and improving the behaviour of a system.
Efficient and successful performance engineering depends on the definition of meaningful experiments, the choice of correct evaluation methodologies, the use of the correct algorithms, and also includes sophisticated data management. Only the combination of all these aspects leads to high reproducibility and reliable results.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from various domains to foster the growth of an active community to advance the methods for automated performance engineering. These domains include performance engineering, data analytics, data management, and system automation. Furthermore, another goal is to extend the number of available OpenAccess data sets of systems performance data.

ITSMS 2022: The First International Workshop on Information Technology Storage Management Specification

ABSTRACT
Large Storage Systems and Storage Area Networks (SANs) are emerging as a prominent and independent layer of IT infrastructure in enterprise class and midrange computing environments. To accelerate the emergence of more functional and sophisticated storage systems in the market, the industry requires a standard management interface that allows different classes of hardware and software products supplied by multiple vendors to reliably and seamlessly interoperate for the purpose of monitoring and controlling resources. This interface is targeted at creating broad multi-vendor management interoperability and thus increasing customer satisfaction. To that end, many standard defines an “open” and extensible interface that allows subsystems and devices within the global context of a large storage system to be reliably and securely managed by overlying presentation frameworks and management systems in the context of the rapidly evolving multi-vendor market. In specific, SAN integrators (like end-users, VARs, and SSPs) can, via this standardized management interface, more flexibly select between multiple vendors when building the hierarchy of software systems required to manage a large storage system independent of the underlying hardware systems. Additionally, storage integrators can more flexibly select between alternate hardware vendors when constructing storage configurations.
