BACKDRAW - Backend Drawing Utility
Backdraw is a convenient graphics tool, which is available through
anonymous ftp. It accepts commands from standard input to show or
to manipulate a picture on the screen. It can be used as a backend
to other tools (e.g. through the pipe command), which generate
the ascii commands to draw the corresponding picture on the screen.
No knowledge of X windows is required. The manual page describes
the command set in more detail.
It emulates up to 32 bit planes (i.e. objects can be placed at 32
different depths and the visibility of overlapping objects depends
on their depths). Besides accepting commands on standard input,
the user can interactively focus/zoom on different parts of
the picture. Furthermore, a postscript drives is included in the
program that generates an encapsulated postscript file, which can
easily be included in various other tools or be printed directly on
a postscript printer.
Backdraw is written in ANSI C using X Windows R11.5 and OSF/Motif 1.2,
but is compatbile with older releases as well. With this tool, one
can be produce fast and easily pictures without putting effort in
developing a graphics backend.
