If you quit posting to this NG a lot of us would suffer less.

likewise it would be greatly appreciated if you could keep
on-topic, Skybuck. i use google groups and i classify
every single one of these messages from you as SPAM,
but it does not help people who use the more trusting
newsreaders, which pre-date SPAM filtering and were the
reason why newsgroups have become mostly abandoned.

if you want to contribute to the destruction of this forum
please continue to post SPAM and off-topic discussion

if you would like to contribute to the valuable discussion
in one of the last remaining public areas where people
with a huge amount of expertise in Computing congregate,
you are most welcome.

"Skybuck Flying" has been making huge numbers of off-topic posts for
many years. He will not stop. He will not respond to requests to be
reasonable. He will continue what he's doing

Given that Usenet doesn't have mechanisms to prevent abusive posters
from posting, and given that Google Groups does not respond to abuse
reports, there is no solution other than individual readers filtering
out his posts.

Which is what I've done for several years. Which is why I don't see
anything he writes unless someone posts a pointless followup.

He posts with what is very probably a valid email address, so if you
want to try to communicate with him you can do so directly.

Followups redirected.

It's certainly true that Vladimir Putin is unlikely to
change his behavior because a lot of people start
putting

STOP THE WAR, STOP THE PAIN, STOP THE SUFFERING.

in their posts. Does he _care_ about how much pain and
suffering he is causing the Ukrainian people? I doubt it
very much.

In fact, to the extent such a message would induce
people to change their behavior, I suspect it would change
the behavior of those who _did_ care about the pain and
suffering the Ukrainian people are experiencing.

But they would change it in a very counter-productive way.
This message, as worded, is more likely to *help* Putin,
by encouraging people to press Ukraine to surrender to
Putin, than to change his actions.

Some time ago he boasted that the Russians will endure more suffering
than the West, so he finds even suffering of the Russian people
acceptable.

i am reminded of the (now legendary) story of Mother Theresa
being invited to an "ANTI-WAR" rally. she famously declined, saying
"but if you ever hold a PEACE rally i will be delighted to accept".

a hypothetical reason why these posts are being made is that
they are not by one person, but that they are being written by
(or their writing is funded by) an Organisation whose remit is
to sow dissent and discord amongst participants of a particular
group. (in this case: comp.arch participants).

there is a book by someone who used to work for such an
Organisation, who became so horrified by the consequences
of their 9-to-5 mon-fri work when they actually encountered
someone whose life was completely destroyed by them,
that they immediately quit their "job" and wrote about what
they did, and why they did it.

it is quite a poignant and insightful book precisely because
the person who wrote it *had* to be knowledgeable about
Humanity... in order to know how best to maximise the
damage they could do as part of their 9-5 "job".

of course, Occam's Razor would tell us that the above
hypothesis is so much horse-shit.
