My very small business (3 employees) is at the point where we need to
project a more professional image. While we don't need a web page at
this point, we really need email addresses at our own domain.
Registering a domain is easy of course, but who can I get to provide
the POP mail access?
I have come up with two options and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a
better solutions:
Option 1:
Yahoo Business Mail. Only costs about $10/month for 5 addresses, but
mailboxes are only 25 MB (a big problem) and I think their attachment
size limit is too low. Also, I think you actually have to use the web
based mail system.
Option 2:
Apollo Hosting (http://www.apollohosting.com/host/compare.shtml).
They are basically a web hoster than throws in some email boxes. But
their range of services looks impressive. This is much closer to what
I'm looking for. Cost is about $20/month.
Any better (i.e. cheaper) ideas?
Thanks,
Matt

All the ISP's I've ever dealt with provided such services. I'd
stay away from the big national ISPs though. Ask around and
find out which local ISP people seem to like.

visi.com outer space...
All email from yahoo goes straight to my junk filter for later analysis.
Register a domian and host it with someone like
affordablehost.com (US$49.95 per year) with just
a simple home page.
Then select your e-mail addresses and use their
e-mail redirect facility to forward any e-mails
addressed to "y...@youdomain.com" onto your
everyday e-mail address(es).
Or have a look at "zoneedit.com" who offer both
"MailForward" and "WebForward" facilities.
Whatever you do you still need your local ISP
for access so continue using their e-mail
services in con-junction with one of the
above.

install a linux server and run your OWN mail server. all you need is
for your ISP to set up the DNS side of things to point to YOUR IP and
possibly to act as a MX for your domain too. i.e. if your box is down
and a mail comes in for you the isp can HOLD onto it for you till you go
back online again.
would be best if you had a semi fast (say dsl) permanant connection with
a static IP. You could set this up on a crappy 386 box box even.
www.namezero.com register your domain, get a free web redirector and e-mail
redirection for more than enough addresses. The only cost is the domain
registration.

www.killerpcs.net (namezero domain, real site is at road runner)
Other than that, we have looked at www.hostway.com for web & email
hosting.
