PHILIPS XA AND 8XC576 WIN AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
================================================
XA is Microcontroller of the Year!
Two internationally distributed and widely respected magazines, EE
Product News (EEPN) and EDN magazine singled out the Philips XA
Microcontroller for special award and recognition. EEPN, in an
article published in December 1995 chose the XA microcontroller as
"Product of the Year" in the microcontroller category stating that "the
device is 10 to 100 times faster than the fastest 8-bit 80C51's." They
concluded their write up by pointing out that the XA "is source-code
compatible with 80C51 programming."
The XA was selected in EDN's December year-end issue for the "Hot 100
Products of 1995." The EDN article included XA features and price, and
focused on the fact that this 16-bit device provides an 80C51 upgrade
path.
8XC576 Is Runner-up to the XA
In EEPN magazine, the 1995 microcontroller runner-up to the XA was our
very own 87XC575! EEPN mentioned that this micro offers a universal
peripheral interface and a 10-bit A/D converter that's used in so
many of today's applications.
XA AND 80C51 INSTRUCTION SET POCKET GUIDES ARE YOURS FOR THE ASKING
===================================================================
These handy pocket guides are prefect for every design. The 80C51 Core
Instruction Quick Reference Guide puts 80C51 OP code descriptions,
internal data map, and valuable bit address information at your
fingertips. This generic guide can be used for any 80C51, manufactured
by anyone.
The eighteen page XA-G3 Quick Reference Guide contains virtually all
the information you'll need to get your XA 16-bit micro designed in
... fast! You'll become intimately familiar with the XA's instruction
set, SFR tables, architecture, and more.
To get these booklets off our shelves and into your pocket, just send an
e-mail with "QUICK1" in the subject field to:
Philips-...@IBSystems.com.
Tell us which one(s) you want, Include your name and snail-mail address,
and we'll mail them.
BSO/TASKING SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT TOOL KIT FOR THE XA
====================================================
A new BSO/Tasking software development tool kit for the Philips 80C51XA
16-bit microcontroller will allow design engineers to retain their
investment in 8-bit 80C51 code, while leveraging the increased
performance and processing speed of the new XA architecture, according
to Philips and BSO/tasking executives. "The BSO/Tasking XA tool kit
will help our customers migrate to the more powerful 16-bit
architecture," said David Fair, marketing manager for Philips
Semiconductors Microcontroller Product Group.
BSO/TASKING XA tools will be available in Q3 1996. Pricing for
individual products starts at $1200. All tools will be available on PC
(DOS, Windows '95), Sun, HP9000/700, and Digital systems. All tools
will be integrated into BSO/TASKING's EDE(tm) for a seamless connection
of products on the PC.
FUTURE DESIGNS, INC. ANNOUNCES XTEND-G3 DEVELOPMENT KIT FOR THE XA
==================================================================
The XTEND-G3 Development Kit from Future Designs, Inc. is now available
to support the XA microcontroller.
The Development Kit includes an XTEND, XA Trainer and Expandable
Narrative Design, designed to provide the user with a low cost, stable
hardware and software platform for application development with the
XA-G3.
The XTEND includes thoroughly documented XA assembly language software
which can serve as a reference design for the user. An internal XA-G3
monitor program allows host communication with a PC and provides an
easy platform for user software development and modification. In many
cases the XTEND may serve as a quick prototype for the actual user
application. With the use of on-board wire-wrap area or optional
expansion boards, the user can quickly and easily get a new design
running with the XA-G3.
Priced at $199.00, the standard XTEND-G3 includes a 64KB of external
memory, a UL approved power supply, and RS232 serial cable. Units are
currently available from stock. Free shipping.
PHILIPS FORUM, THE PLACE TO BE
==============================
Traffic on the Philips Microcontroller Forum is growing, and the topics
are wide ranging. In the past week, 'DAC with I2C,' '87C753
Programmers,' '87Cxx Emulation,' the latest 'DS-750 emulator,' 'the
DS5000,' the 'SL10 chip' were among the topics discussed. The
forum is a great place to ask questions, give advice, and learn about
the latest 80C51 tools and design methodologies.
After consulting with Forum users, we've decided to deliver the Forum
in digest form, rather than on a message-by-message basis, to
accommodate the increased traffic demands and to insure that errant
requests to subscribe or unsubscribe don't end up in all the Forum
member's mail boxes.
Want to DIP into our Microcontroller Forum? It's easy! Send mail with
the word "subscribe" in the subject field to:
Philips-Fo...@IBSystems.com. You can also subscribe by filling
out and submitting a short form on the Philips Semiconductor web site
(http://www.semiconductors.philips.com).
AUTHORS ALWAYS NEEDED!
========================
Thanks to all of you who contributed to the success of the 1995 Philips
Microcontroller E-Mail Newsletter. We'd like to feature articles or
short comment from our readers in our 1996 editions. Please send your
stories, ideas, and comments to Philips...@IBSystems.com.

April is correct for the formal product release, although samples have
been available for some time. Contact your local Philips Semiconductor
office.
As for distribution, they probably don't know the correct part number,
P51XAG3xxxx where the last four x's indicate memory type, temp range and
package...
