I breadboarded the Byron Jeff's low voltage programmer and used the
David Tait's FPP program.
After supposedly successful programming I had an accident, I
disconnected the ground from the computer.
After realizing that there was an improvement to the code I tried to
reprogramm the chip with no luck.
So I either fried the chip of I don't know how the option register value
is handled and it wasflipped to high voltage programming.

In MPLAB I set the options , but is that value put into the '.HEX' file
or do I have to enter it manualy into the software?
I the software it it shows by default as '####' ????
Also the ID solely to indicate what software and its version is
programmed in the chip?

I wish I could find a programmer that works from MPLAB, some three weeks
ago I was on some tutorial site that among other things explained the
opcodes and I think it said the BJ TLVP should work from MPLAB
but the newest version only seams to support serial programmers.
Unfortunately I can't seam to find that site after 2 long search sessions.

Cheers Sam.

You might want to look at the Olimex PIC-MCP-USB programmer at:
http:\\www.olimex.com
or
http:\\www.sparkfun.com
It runs via just the USB connection, with no external power supply,
and is recognized by the MPLAB software as a PIC+ programmer, so it's
compatible with any Microchip 8-40 pin DIP device(except the 17XXX
series). Includes a 40 pin ZIF socket and can do ICSP. Supposedly
includes free firmware upgrades to latest MPLAB editions. I got one
about 6 months ago and have had real good luck with it.

Regards,
Charlie
