Hi,
I notice the 16F84 's have a speed in their name (ie, 16F84A-04 for 4MHz parts,
16F84A-20 for 20MHz parts.) On the other hand, the 16F874A's do not
have a speed suffix. Should I assume all 16F874A can do 20MHz? Thank you.

Don't assume anything!
Use the best way as always - look at the datasheet...
