Hi folks,

I saw that someone mentioned translators, and it reminded me that I really
would like to find a DXF or DWG to Gerber translator (at not too high a
price) to be used in making artwork for front panel silkscreens. AutoCAD
now uses Truetype fonts, but they wont show up as a filled font unless some
tweeking is done.

Does anybody know of a translator program?

Thanks in advance,
Len Gabrielson

you can make high quality film from .dwg
you just need the right service bureau, hard to find
the only place I have found is San Jose Blue
I have been through a bunch of places and blown and lot of time and
money

it's all about the 'printer' driver, most graphics places are Mac and
they don't have a clue

at SBJ they 'print' to a specific lino device and all is well...

forget about the dwg to gerber route, it won't work

Protel will allow you to import .dxf files into their PCB editor, then you
can save as gerber. This could be an option if you have access to Protel
already - otherwise (I imagine) it's pretty expensive. A specific
translator program is linkcad:

http://www.linkcad.com

Might be an option . . . free 15 day trial version.

Duncan,

I use Protel now, but have been disappointed in their DXF import/export
routines. I'll try it again to be sure it doesn't work. I'm using a
service bureau now, but for a simple front panel with a device name and
little else, it comes to $68-80. There's nothing complicated about the
process, it's just that they have a translator and I don't.

I'll try Protel again, just to be sure.

Thanks,
Len
