Because submissions were too few to support a separate workshop, the
CAD-Based Computer Vision workshop scheduled in conjunction with CVPR

the submissions for a special journal issue. Authors will be
contacted for input on how to proceed. We apologize for any

Subject: Face Image Collection available

Our collection of frontal view and profile images is available via ftp
now. Our ftp adress is:

iamftp.unibe.ch

And the collection may be found in the directory:

/pub/Images/FaceImages

This collection of face images is divided into two parts:

* FullFaces.tar.gz

This file contains frontal views of 30 people. For each person we took
10 greylevel images with slight variations of the head positions
(1,2 right into the camera, 3,4 looking to the right, 5,6 looking to the
left, 7,8 downwards, 9,10 upwards).

* Profiles.tar.gz

This file contains profile views of the same 30 people. We took 5 greylevel
images per person with variations of the head position, the size and the
contrast (1,2,3 big profiles with high contrast, looks like binarized,
4,5 small profiles with normal grey levels).

The lighting conditions during image acquisition were carefully controlled.

The two files are tared and compressed. All images are saved in the Sun
rasterfile format and have 256 greylevels.

Report problems and errors to Bernard Achermann, <acke...@iam.unibe.ch>.

Methods for Extracting and Mapping Buildings, Roads

September 2 - 3, 1996

Lecture Hall i3, Inffeldgasse 25

Space imagery is becoming available at increasingly higher geometric
resolutions, approaching those traditionally reserved to aerial
photography. The creation of base maps, the detection of changes, the
merging of images from different sensors all benefit from an ability to
automatically recognize man-made objects from digital overhead images. Yet
this ability is far from being available in a routine manner. To focus
attention on this issue we invite you to contribute to, and attend, a
specialist workshop. To this end we issue a

Subject: FCP: EANN'96: Special track on computer vision.

Dear computer vision researcher,

a special track on computer vision will be organized in the International
Conference on Engineering Applications of Neural Networks (EANN'96)
to be held on 17.-19. June 1996 in London, UK. The Final Call for Papers
can be found at the end of this message.

We hope that a good number of NN papers related to Computer Vision
will be received, like in the last year, when the conference was
hold in Helsinki, Finland. Last year, based on a number of good
quality computer vision papers it was possible to edit a
special issue on "Neural Networks for Computer Vision Applications"
for Pattern Recognition Letters journal (this special issue will
be published in May/June 1996). For this year, we also have
plans for publishing a special issue in some journal. For this, of
course, your contribution is needed.

I hope to see you in London, UK, on 17.-19. June 1996.
