Subject: CFP : IEEE 1st Int Conf on Biometrics - Wash DC - 15MAY2007

The First International Conference on Biometrics: Theory, Applications
and Systems (BTAS 07) strives to be the premier research meeting focused
on biometrics. Its broad scope includes advances in fundamental pattern
recognition techniques relevant to biometrics, new algorithms and / or
technologies for biometrics, analysis of specific applications, and
analysis of the social impacts of biometrics technology. Areas of
coverage include biometrics based on voice, fingerprint, iris, face,
handwriting, gait and other sources, as well as multi-modal biometrics
and new biometrics based on novel sensing technologies. Submissions
will be rigorously reviewed, and should clearly make the case for a
documented improvement over the existing state of the art. Experimental
results for contributions in established areas such as voice, face,
iris, fingerprint, and gait should are encouraged to use the largest and
most challenging existing publicly available datasets.

The wavelet transform, multiresolution analysis, and other space-
frequency or space-scale approaches are now considered standard tools by
researchers in image and signal processing. Promising practical results
in machine vision and sensors for industrial applications and non
destructive testing have been obtained, and a lot of ideas can be
applied to industrial imaging projects. This conference is intended to
bring together practitioners, researchers, and technologists in machine
vision, sensors, non destructive testing, signal and image processing to
share recent developments in wavelet and multiresolution approaches.
Papers emphasizing fundamental methods that are widely applicable to
industrial inspection and other industrial applications are especially

From: Bob Fisher <r...@inf.ed.ac.uk>
Subject: REFS : CVonline visual neurophysiology subtree

Dear vision and image analysis people:
http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/rbf/CVonline/ now has a subtree on visual
neurophysiology:
http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/rbf/CVonline/neuro.htm

Support for this development came from the EU funded euCognition network
(for which we are grateful!)
http://www.eucognition.org/

CVonline's goal is not to be exhaustive, but to give a useful first
point of contact for explanations of different concepts and techniques.
Cvonline currently has about 1600 topics, 1200 of which have content.
It is useful for course references, student project introductions, quick
explanations, etc. It receives 3-4K accesses/week through the front page
and undoubtedly many more directly via google.

For those interested in image processing, there is also HIPR2, free
WWW-based Image Processing Teaching Materials with JAVA HIPR2 contains
tutorial materials for the 50 most commonly used image processing
operators. It contains tutorial text, sample results and JAVA
demonstrations of individual operators and collections.
http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/rbf/HIPR2/

Best wishes, Bob
