The Paris Commune was the FIRST large scale experiment in socialism and
lasted from March 28-May 28 1871; it eventually ended in the massacre of
the brave & idealistic Paris Communards. As you might expect, the Paris
Commune had a very deep impact on the hearts and minds of every leftist of
that era and into the 20th century, influencing everyone from Marx & Engles
to Proudhon & Bakunin to the architect of the Bolshevik revolution--V. I.
Lenin.

Looking ahead at future CCE events:
Throughout the month of October the CCE will be sponsoring a series of
Friday evening discussion groups. This one on the Paris Commune is the
first of these events. Later this month we will do some Marx, and we will
culminate the CCE's October Revolution w/a 2 part study of Lenin's "What is
to be Done" on 10/16 & 10/23.
These discussion groups will be facilitated by Matthew Mitchum (PhD.
Candidate European Graduate School, mentored by Alain Badiou, & Adjunct at
Columbus State CC) with assistance by Joey Pigg (PhD. Candidate OSU in
English ... Medieval Studies & Critical Theory).
